Die Feder und der Elefant
2017 | Hamburger Kunsthalle | Hamburg, DE

While the weight of a feather is scarcely measurable, the elephant is commonly considered a heavyweight. Given this stark contrast in size and mass, a state of equilibrium is hard to imagine. And yet there is a situation in which the disparity dissolves: in a vacuum. If both fall from same height without air resistance, gravity will ensure that they touch the ground simultaneously.

In correlation with the architecture of the surrounding space, Dávila explores the limits of materiality, physical forces, structural engineering, mass and balance. In the process, he playfully reflects on issues addressed by the art and architecture avant-gardes of the 20th century, offering critical commentaries as well as open tributes to their achievements.
